So that’s why I love Ibiza…

I was just trying to find out how much Chemical Brothers were paid to play Space in Ibiza in summer 2008 (I’d heard a cool 1 million euros but I find that hard to believe, even though the club probably grosses double that on door sales alone).  Interestingly, they hadnt played there for 14 years – the last time they were there they were booed off after three tracks by the crowd – the road to the top isnt  always easy!

Anyway, back to the point, I found out that back in 654BC the Carthaginians set up a cult to their goddess of sex on a small island and named it Ibiza, after Bez, their god of dance (possibly related to the Happy Monday’s pill chompin’ front man?).  Again, I’ve not managed to verify this information, but to be honest I dont care.  That sounds perfect to me and explains the magnetic pull of the island – and the hedonism that generally ensues.

Check out the article from the Times for more info on how Ibiza became the dance music capital of planet Earth…

Its a good book with only a small bit dedicated to the clubbing etc which most people now associate with it.
