Artist Spotlight: Death On The Balcony

As the sun streams down on the grim north, we check in with Leeds production duo Death On the Balcony after what has been something of a standout year in their careers thus far – dropping sick productions, a successful bi-city party (Throwback), and generally having a great deal of fun. It’s great to see all the hard effort producers put and their production get the attention deserved. These guys are making some top bananas full of slick studio trickery and fresh ideas. Check out their ‘Cruel Banana’ track for starters, you definitely wont regret it.

When did you start and one sentence summary of you history:

Death on the Balcony started after us meeting through mutual friends on the party circuit in Leeds, it wasn’t long until we were making beats in the studio after bonding over a mutual love of 80’s disco & house. Mark & I (Paul) both have different musical history’s due to the age gap. I started on guitar and songwriting as a youngster and slowly progressed to my love for producing Electronic beats. Mark has been buying vinyl, Djing and producing since a young age.

Best night of your life:
There are too many to choose just one. Maybe it’s still to be written.

Music makes me … ?
complete!

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Hmm..Maybe Black Lace! Russ Abbott – Atmosphere… maybe some 80’s power ballads.. Where do we start! Afterparties get a tad silly sometimes!

Where does your inspiration for tracks come from?
Everything & Everyone around us & most importantly each other!

If I could change anything I would …?
I would change this question!

Favourite Production toy & why:
The Microkorg for its super space noises, and ableton for its vast capabilities and speed which enhances the creative process no end!

Favourite producer:
Too many to mention.

Tip for budding producers:
Make what you feel, love what you do.

Plans for the future:
We are very excited about our next Throwback party on Easter Thursday 21st April. We have asked other party brands Asylum & Cognosco on board. The Line up is Metro Area, Crazy P & Adam Shelton at The Loft with the event being across two rooms.
We have some new Death on the Balcony releases out very soon too on Airdrop records, Silver Network, Pets Recordings, ISM, Needwant + some remixes too. Out now digitally is a track on mexican label Akbal Music called “The Nation” .
We also have a mixed CD of our own material due out towards end of spring/summer so keep your eyes out for that one dropping!
There is some other stuff on the horizon which we cant talk too much about yet but should be in place very soon. We are keeping busy and having fun thats the main thing!

Thanks for the fine words guys, we’re well looking forward to seeing Crazy P at the next Throwback party!  For you readers wanting to find out a little more and pick up some of their releases check the below links:
